Why are dental
implants used?

Dental implants as a treatment has been well documented for at least thirty years. This treatment option is not only backed by scientific literature but also clinical experience.

Dental implants have the same goal – to provide solutions for missing teeth and in the process to improve a person’s quality of life.

Almost all dental implants in use today are made from titanium or titanium alloy. There are many different implant systems available and when competently used they can all deliver a highly reliable form of treatment.

Immediate Tooth Replacement

Do you require teeth in a day? If you are about to lose a tooth we can arrange to have it removed and for the placement of a Dental Implant on the same visit so that nobody would ever know what happened.

Immediate Dental Implant placement is possible if there is no infection and there is sufficient bone.

Single Tooth Replacement

If only one tooth is missing, a single Dental Implant in London is the gold standard method of tooth replacement.

It will not damage adjacent teeth as with a bridge or denture. It will maintain the positions of the remaining teeth by preventing them from moving into the space.

Multiple Teeth Replacements

If more than one tooth has been lost it is possible to have 2 or more Dental Implants adjacent to one another. It is also possible to have Dental Implants joined together with a bridge so that you do not need an individual Dental Implants per tooth.

Full Arch Dental Implants

If you have lost all your teeth we can provide dental implants to support or anchor a fixed stable permanent aesthetic bridge.

The number of Dental Implants required to support a full arch bridge will depend on the anatomy of the jaw bone, the number of teeth required, the type of bridge required and the opposing teeth.

During your first visit, we will take the time to understand your concerns, expectations and dental history. A thorough clinical examination will be carried out, which typically includes updated and focused radiographs to allow accurate treatment planning. You will then be presented with suitable treatment approaches, associated costs and have the opportunity to ask questions.
Your general health should be stable, and any existing medical conditions should be well managed. Healthy gums are also important - active periodontal disease can significantly increase the risk of peri-implant inflammation.
A dental implant is placed surgically into the jawbone in the region where a tooth is missing. The implant is then left to bond with the bone (osseointegrate), which typically takes 3–4 months. After this period, a customised crown or prosthesis is fabricated and attached to the implant.
The duration of the treatment depends on the number of implants needed to achieve your desired outcome. A single implant typically will be less than an hour. We advise setting aside the day for recovery to ensure you have ample time to rest and begin the healing process.
Again, this depends on the number and type of implants required. You will probably experience some swelling and tenderness for at least a few days after the procedure.
Immediate implant placement refers to inserting an implant at the same visit the tooth is removed, followed by a healing period of roughly 3–5 months. Immediate loading is when a final crown is fitted right after implant placement, often useful for front teeth where appearance is a priority. Not all cases are suitable, so these options are selected based on strict clinical criteria.
Full-arch implant rehabilitation involves replacing all teeth in a jaw with bridges supported by multiple implants (commonly 4–6 or more). Digital planning is often used to design the treatment precisely. Patients usually wear a temporary bridge while healing is taking place and until the implants become securely integrated in the bone.
We use topical anaesthetic before administering local anaesthesia and our clinicians take a gentle, patient-focused approach. You may feel a brief sting when the anaesthetic is delivered, but the actual procedure should be mostly comfortable. After surgery, mild-moderate pain and swelling can occur for a few days, and prescribed medication generally manages this well. Your comfort will be closely monitored throughout.
A simple case may require about three to four visits over a period of roughly three to four months. More complex cases may need additional visits and a longer timeline. Long-term maintenance is essential—implant review and professional cleaning every 6 months helps ensure stable health around the implant.
Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution for tooth replacement. The longevity of implants largely depends on several factors, including the patient's oral hygiene, bone health and adherence to post-operative care. Regular dental check-ups and proper maintenance are crucial to ensure the long-term success and durability of the implants. Implants can function for many years with consistent oral hygiene and professional follow-up. However, the crown may eventually need repair or replacement due to normal wear.
For the first 24 hours, we aim to minimise bleeding, so avoiding hot meals, vigorous rinsing or any sucking actions (e.g., straws) is advised. A soft diet and reduced physical activity are recommended in the first few days. You will be given instructions regarding medication, such as pain relief, anti-inflammatories or antibiotics when indicated. During healing, it is important not to disturb the surgical area with fingers, the tongue, or objects.
Yes. Most patients with insufficient bone can still receive implants with additional procedures such as bone grafting, sinus lift, or ridge augmentation. A bone graft is a procedure where additional bone (synthetic, donor, or your own) is placed to rebuild the jaw so it can support an implant.
